December 2006 Looking Back . . . .
It’s hard to believe that another year is almost behind us. This year has passed by like a missing sock; you have no idea where it’s gone! Seriously though, this is a good time in the year to reflect back on our mistakes, to learn from them, and to make corrections that will bring more fruitful results in the coming year. It is also a great time to review our accomplishments and successes throughout the year, and to keep on keeping on with the things done right. I believe that as we look back on our actions throughout the year, we are better prepared for the activities our Lord has planned for our future.

The same can be said with our Small Group Ministry here at New Hope Church. It is important for us to review what worked and what hasn’t and make those necessary changes which will bring about added growth and depth to our small groups over the coming year. So where are we? Well at the present time we have 10 men’s small groups, 10 women’s small groups, one newly started singles group, and almost 40 couples/mixed groups. In addition we have 15 community leaders and 95 small group leaders and hosts. With an average of slightly over 9 people per group, that brings us to over 500 New Hope Church adults participating in our small group ministry! (some adults may be in two groups)

Looking back at this year’s major events we will find my initiation to the NHC staff as your small group pastor, our highly successful 40 Days of Community series, and our recent Living Beyond Myself series. These two series helped to cement the principle of a servant’s heart in the minds and behavior of your small group members.

In 2007 we will work hard to bring your small groups into a closer relationship with God through a number of studies and events. Our first study series in January 2007 titled, “My Heart – Christ’s Home” will help your small groups to deepen their relationship with Christ as they examine their own lives. As we continue to grow in the ministry, we recognize the need for leadership training and will therefore provide a number of small group leader and community leader training seminars to sharpen your skills to become more effective shepherds of your group members. Don’t forget that our first leadership training seminar is scheduled for January 6th. As a ministry we will also take an assessment of our spiritual health by asking each our your small groups to participate in a small questionnaire that will provide an insight into our areas of strength and areas we need to focus, as we strive to transform each of our members closer to the image of Christ.

This coming year promises to be an exciting time of spiritual growth as we continue to seek and accomplish God’s Will for our ministry. But as I look back, I realize that the successes we’ve experienced last year are in large part due to the love, dedication, and hard work you have demonstrated while shepherding your small group flock. So as 2006 comes to a close I want to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for your involvement in your small group and in this ministry. As the author of Hebrews stated,
“. . . he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” Hebrews 6:10

Your brother in Christ,

Bob Mimiaga
