Educate God's people.
- We envision a church developing devoted disciples.
- We envision New Hope as a learning and equipping center. We desire to develop people for life, now and for eternity.
- We envision a church climate that attracts and raises up Spirit-filled workers and leaders.
|
Demonstrate God's love.
- We envision a church helping the hurting, the poor and needy.
- We envision every member equipped and involved in a significant ministry that matches his or her S.H.A.P.E. (Spiritual gifts, heart, abilities, personality and experience).
|
Communicate God's plan.
- We envision God using our church to witness and win thousands to Christ in Deschutes County and beyond.

What We Believe

The Bible
We believe that the Old and New Testaments are the inspired, inerrant, written word of God. The Bible is the supreme and final authority in faith and life.

The Trinity & Jesus Christ
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, and is true God and true man.

Man's Sinfulness
We believe that man was created in the image of God; that he sinned, and thereby incurred, not only physical death, but also that spiritual death which is separation from God.

Free Will
We believe that, as a free agent, man can either accept or reject God. In giving man freedom of choice, God has expressed the true nature of His love - not coercion, but an open invitation to accept His way.

Salvation
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures and all that truly repent of their sins and believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood.

Sanctification
We believe it is the will of God that each believer should be filled with the Holy Spirit, being separated from sin and the world and fully consecrated to the will of God, thereby receiving power for holy living and effective service.

Future
We believe the teaching that Christ will return to earth in fulfillment of the Biblical prophecies, ushering in the time of the Last Judgment, leading to eternal life for those who have accepted God's offer of salvation in Jesus Christ, and eternal punishment and death for those who have rejected it.

Sacraments
We believe in two sacraments instituted by our Lord, communion and baptism.

Church History

No church comes out of a vacuum. All churches have a history that effects the present. New Hope Evangelical Church is part of a Denomination. Some people are turned off by the word "denomination." In fact, there has been a trend in past years for churches to emphasis "autonomy" and "non-denominationalism." However, a Denomination is simply " two or more local churches working together." Moreover, we believe that accountability and connecting with other local churches is essential for a healthy local church.
In June, 1968 the ministers and lay delegates of the Pacific Conference of the Evangelical United Brethren Church met in Oregon City, Oregon, to unanimously form a new denomination called the Evangelical Church of North America [ www.pacificecna.org ]. Soon thereafter, numerous other Evangelical United Brethren churches across the nation chose to affiliate with the new denomination in order to preserve vital doctrine and spiritual dynamic. The Evangelical Church is young, dynamic and fervent in its dedication to proclaiming the Good News of God's love in Christ Jesus. In fact, that is exactly the meaning of "Evangelical" , proclaiming the Good News!
For several years the Pacific Conference of the Evangelical Church desired to start a church in Bend. Finally at the Annual Conference in July of 1980, Randyl and Gwen Taber were assigned to Bend to start a new work. The church was initially called Bend Evangelical Church. The first location proved to be unsatisfactory and the church rented Ross Hall for their Sunday Services. The next few years were years of struggle. The failing economy in Central Oregon forced many to find employment in other areas of the country. Under the excellent leadership of Randyl Taber, in 1983, the church was able to purchase 6 3/4 acres of land. That year was one of walking and planning by faith. It was during this year that Pastor Taber committed himself to another church in North Dakota. However, because of his desire to see the church go forward, he stayed in Bend until April, 1984. The first phase of our building was begun March 14th, 1984. Randyl Taber urged the church to change its name to New Hope Church because of their new hope and future dreams of giving hope to the Bend area and beyond.
On May 17, 1984 Pastor Randy and Linda Myers moved to Bend to assume pastoral leadership at New Hope. In July, 1984 the church was incorporated as "New Hope Evangelical Church." It was only through the support of the many volunteers from our Pacific Conference churches as well as our local church that the building was completed in June, 1984. Since that time, New Hope has continued to grow numerically and spiritually and has completed two major expansion projects to accomodate that growth. Over the past 20+ years the church has grown from around 30 to around 1000 in weekend attendance. Many have come to know Christ and the fullness of His Spirit in their lives. We are trusting God for continued spiritual and numerical growth as we reach out in the Bend area and beyond.
